Civil Partnership Dissolution in St Helens

The breakdown of any relationship can be a stressful and emotional time and so if you need to organise the dissolution of a civil partnership you need to choose the right family law solicitor.

Dissolution of a Civil Partnership Needs to Be Done Through the Courts

A civil partnership needs to be dissolved through the Courts, and although it is similar there are some differences with divorce proceedings. In order for dissolution of a civil partnership to take place, the irretrievable breakdown of the relationship must be proved.

This could be because of one of the following reasons:

  • Unreasonable behaviour
  • 2 years separation and both parties consenting to a divorce
  • 2 years desertion
  • 5 years separation (no consent is needed)

In order to dissolve a civil partnership you must have been together more than one year.

Financial Options Are the Same As Divorce Options

If your relationship ends our family law solicitor can help you to dissolve the relationship explaining procedures, help with any financial claims, assist with factors that govern the division of assets and any issues relating to children you have.

When a civil partnership ends, both parties have the same financial legal rights as divorcing couples. You have the rights to claim maintenance, lump sum payments, property transfer and pension sharing/attachment orders.

We Can Organise Mediation If Needed
