At Hattons Solicitors we help victims of domestic abuse or violence whether they have been hurt from one attack or whether the domestic abuse or violence has happen over a period of time.
Often the greatest risk of domestic violence happens when a couple separates but however it has happened it can have a huge impact on the victim or on any children in the family, which is why it is so important to seek help.
Domestic abuse does not need to be physical violence but can also include psychological, sexual, financial or emotional abuse as well as threats of violence.
Our team will talk to you in confidence often dealing with very sensitive issues. At Hattons we can help you to get an injunction, which would exclude the perpetrator from your home and/or a defined area around your home, giving you time to recover and decide how to move forward.
There are two types of injunction that we can help you to get to protect you:
Hattons could also help you by using the Protection from Harassment Act which provides protection for a wider range of people than the Family Law Act, such as from an ex-partner who has never lived with you or hasn’t done so for some time.
We can also advise you on Children Issues relating to the abuse, helping to protect them through the Children’s Act which covers residence orders, contact orders and prohibited steps orders.
If you have been a victim of domestic abuse or violence, your first port should be to contact the police. If the police are unable to assist or provide you with adequate protection, then you should seek legal advice immediately.
