Riot Damage – Who Will Pay?
Riot Damage: Businesses Could All Be Covered for the Riot Damage Under Riot Act of 1886
The recent riot damage in Manchester and the rest of the UK has been a terrible sight for local citizens to bear, with many businesses and home owners feeling the full brunt of the riot damage in the centre of Manchester, Salford and Liverpool.
The riot damage throughout major cities and towns in the UK has meant that the insurance industry has estimated the cost of loss and riot damage at well over £100 million. Many businesses and home owners have been affected by these events and will be covered by insurance policies.
However others may not be as lucky as they may not be covered for riot damage under their insurance policy or they may simply be uninsured.
Hope for Business and Homeowner Compensation with the Riot (Damages) Act of 1886
Under the Riot (Damages) Act of 1886 these losses could be recouped from police authorities. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that the rules contained within this Act have provided a safety net for the uninsured businesses and home owners, meaning that premiums have not risen year by year for cover for a rare event, such as riot damage.
You Must Act Quickly – 42 Days to Apply
If you have been affected by the riots and wish to consider using the Riot (Damages) Act to make a claim you need to act quickly as there is a 42 day deadline by which to apply (extended from the normal 14 days).
We are advising businesses and home owners to collect as much evidence as possible to help their claim, so if you have CCTV, photographs and witnesses, this will all help your claim.
Contact Hattons Solicitors for Riot Damage Compensation Legal Advice
Should you require riot damage assistance or guidance on making a claim, then you can call Hattons Solicitors, who are based close to Manchester, Salford and Liverpool where some of the riot damage has tragically occurred.
Please contact Andy Bailey on 08000 111 303 or by email andrew.bailey@hattonslaw.com. Alternatively fill in the call back request form to the right of this screen.
