I am currently a Trainee Solicitor at Hattons Solicitors. I previously had a different career after leaving university but decided to return to my original ambition of qualifying as a solicitor.
To find a training contract can be difficult for anyone hoping to become a solicitor but even more so for someone who is re-training. However I am very happy to say that Hattons welcomed me with open arms.
The partners were willing to take a chance on someone who hadn't come through the standard route of A-levels, University, Law College, then immediately into a training contract and this is something for which I will always be grateful.
Since becoming a trainee I have been involved in and exposed to many great opportunities. I was one of four who moved off to open a new branch of Hattons in Leigh. The new office has been a chance to learn about setting up a new legal office, including everything from computers to stationary! We have all mucked in and the Leigh branch is now going strong.
I have also been involved with a wide range of clients and been able to take initial instructions from new clients and carry them right through to resolution. It is very satisfying writing to a client enclosing their compensation cheque, but especially gratifying when you were the person who met with them when they first visited Hattons hoping to find out if they could claim. I have worked on medical negligence cases, accidents at work, trips and slips, complaints against the police, road traffic accident cases, product liability and breach of contract matters. I have also attended court on behalf of Hattons.
As I progress through my contract I hope to gain further experience in all of the various areas in which Hattons provides legal services, including the commercial and employment law departments.
It has been a great eight months of training and I look forward to rest!
